We have a family of 7. With various different sports, work, and lives in general we try to plan one big vacation a year. I like to shop around for the best prices for everything. I will spend 6 months planning a vacation to try to get the best price for every single aspect of out trip. I like to make the best out of every day. Plan for the weather. Plan to do everything we can afford to do. Look for discount packages. Anything and everything. There is so much that goes into planning vacations. Montana (GNP) is a vacation we have taken by ourselves as we thought it would not be that interesting to look at mountains and hike everyday to the kids. Adventurous vacations to the kids would include a amusement park.
No matter how many different sites I looked at for flights there was nothing more cheap then what was on Expedia. So we booked our flights. Then we found a cute cabin up near Rexford on VRBO and booked that. Then I called around to different dealerships to find a vehicle. Driving down mountain back roads I didn't want a car. Centsible auto had rentals by the week and availability. They didn't charge for milage just one flat rate for the week and that was it.
When it came time to plan the day to day adventures I went to Facebook groups and started asking questions. There are so many groups and everyone was so helpful!
We decided to take out trip in the first week of June in 2021. I knew there was going to be a chance that going to the sun road was not going to be open. My advice to anyone is don't plan your trip around going to the sun road. While it is beautiful there is so much more to see then just that.
I felt that by the time it came to our trip I had every day perfectly planned. Only thing that I was a little nervous about was that they had a big winter and spring wasn't coming fast enough so the gttsr still wasn't open.
Our flight went amazing. We took a cab from the airport to get our rental car with no problems. Got to our cabin in the afternoon and took a nap. Rexford was a lot further away from gnp than I originally thought. So the first few days we stayed and explored by our cabin hoping for warmer weather so things by the park would open up. We traveled everyday and packed lunches, then came home for dinner. Even though the park never opened up and the gttsr wasn't fully opened it never bothered us. The mountain view we got every day was enough to make everyday all worth the while.
We loved this trip so much we decided to go back again in 2023.
Please feel free to check out anything that helped make our trip easier!
